The Holland Lop isn’t just a pet—it’s a showstopper. With its compact body, floppy ears, and sweet expression, this breed is one of the most popular in rabbit competitions. But winning in the show ring takes more than cuteness. Here’s what you need to know to prepare your Holland Lop for ARBA-sanctioned shows.

๐Ÿ† Breed Standards: What Judges Look For

According to ARBA’s Standard of Perfection, Holland Lops are judged on eight key body parts, each assigned a point value:

  • General Type (Body, Head, Ears, Feet & Legs) – 80 points total

    • Body: Compact, muscular, and well-balanced

    • Head: Broad and bold, with a short muzzle

    • Ears: Thick, well-furred, and lopped close to the cheeks

    • Feet & Legs: Short and strong

  • Fur – 10 points

    • Dense, rollback coat with a soft texture

  • Color & Markings – 5 points

    • Must match ARBA-approved varieties

  • Condition – 5 points

    • Clean, healthy, and well-groomed

⚖️ Weight Requirements

  • Senior Bucks and Does (6+ months): 2 to 4 pounds

  • Junior Bucks and Does (under 6 months): Minimum 2 pounds, not over 3.5 pounds

Rabbits outside these weight ranges may be disqualified.

๐Ÿšซ Common Disqualifications

  • Ears that do not lop properly or are too short

  • Narrow or elongated body shape

  • Poor fur condition or excessive matting

  • Incorrect color or markings not recognized by ARBA

  • Signs of illness, parasites, or injury

๐Ÿงผ Grooming and Preparation

  • Bathe only if necessary—spot cleaning is preferred

  • Trim nails and check ears for debris or infection

  • Brush gently to remove loose fur and prevent matting

  • Practice posing your rabbit to show off its best features

๐Ÿ“ Show Day Tips

  • Bring a clean carrier with soft bedding

  • Pack grooming tools, water, and food

  • Arrive early to check in and acclimate your rabbit
